Future teachers improve their language skills at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hannover

Students majoring in 014 Secondary Education of Poltava Polytechnic Yelyzaveta Trebka and Shakhlo Kosimova successfully completed their studies at the Faculty of Education at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hannover. The future teachers studied English, German and teaching methods at one of the best German universities and became participants in the UNESCO-supported “Youth as Researchers” project.

The second-year students majoring in 014 Secondary Education (English and a Second Foreign Language) of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Yelyzaveta Trebka and Shakhlo Kosimova successfully studied at the Faculty of Education at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hannover for a semester.

The future professionals participated in Erasmus+ exchange programme under the agreement on academic cooperation and student mobility concluded between Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and Faculty of Education of Friedrich Leibniz University (Hannover, Germany). Their studies lasted for six months – from October 2023 to March 2024.

During their studies, the students studied English in depth as well as methods of teaching it and took part in the UNESCO “Youth as Researchers” programme, under which they worked as teaching assistants in schools with a large number of Ukrainian-speaking children, helping teachers to teach and Ukrainian-speaking children to learn.

The agreement on academic cooperation between the faculties was concluded with the assistance of Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Halyna Talovyria. Earlier, a Poltava Polytechnic scientist won a grant from DAAD to participate in a project on internationalisation management and German-Ukrainian academic cooperation, took part in trainings on the internationalisation of higher education, and successfully completed an internship at one of the leading German universities.

After returning to their alma mater, Poltava Polytechnic students plan to use the knowledge and practical skills they have gained at a foreign university for their further educational activities and are already dreaming of applying for new academic mobility programmes at leading European universities.

Recently, a university scientist became a speaker at the International Conference TESOL24, dedicated to the issues of teaching foreign languages, translation students train their professional skills at the unique simultaneous translation laboratory of the university, a Polytechnic scientist successfully completed an international internship at the leading American educational institutions, and future translators practised consecutive interpretation during a trip to the locations of Poltava Art Museum.

It should be recalled that Polytechnic students are invited to take part in a large-scale event dedicated to the latest technologies.
