Department of Construction Machinery and Equipment

Department’s rooms: L-03 (machinery hall), L-101 (postgraduate’s room), L-101а (chief’s office), L-102 (teacher’s room), 207-F (Branch Research Laboratory of Mechanization of Manual Labor in Construction), B-2 (‘Vibrotechnics’ Design Office), Module (educational and manufacturing laboratory), 205-L (computer classroom with mechatronics laboratory)

The department’s history is closely connected with university’s history. In 1961 Ministry of Education of Ukraine issued Decree 12 that gave the institute the new name and status: Poltava Institute of Civil Engineering. And on October 1, 1961, a decision was made to divide the Department of Construction Production into two departments. The first one was the Department of Organization, Economy and Technology of Construction Production and the second one was the Department of Construction Machinery and Equipment.

The Department of Construction Machinery and Equipment was appointed at that time to teach future construction engineers the following disciplines: "Machine Details", "Metal and Welding Technology", "Theory of Mechanisms and Machines", "Construction Machinery".

The staff of scientific and pedagogical workers for the 1961-1962 academic year was only 8 people.

In different years, the department was headed by: Kazymir Oleksandrovych Olekhnovych, Valerian Vasylovych Belianin, Vitalii Mykhailovych Pomazan, Oleksandr Hryhorovych Onyshchenko.

Since September 1, 1989, the department has received a license to carrying out educational activities with students in the specialty ‘Lifting and transport, construction, road, reclamation machines and equipment’.

The first graduation of specialists with the qualification ‘mechanical engineer’ took place in June 1994, and already on September 1, the department receives a license to open new specialties ‘Mechanical Engineering Technology’ and ‘Oil and Gas Industry Equipment’, which served as the reason for the separation from the Department of Construction Machinery and Equipment in 1996 of two new graduate departments. These are the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology and the Department of Oil and Gas Industry Equipment.

Thanks to the staff of the Department of Construction Machinery and Equipment, since September 1, 2000, the university has been getting students to study in the specialty "Automobiles and automotive industry".

The main scientific activity areas of the Department of Construction Machinery and Equipment are theoretical substantiation and creation of appliances for mechanization of manual labor in construction, namely, plastering stations and plants, small-sized plastering units, vertical-plunger mortar pumps with mechanical and hydraulic drive; development and implementation of vibroforming machines for precast concrete enterprises; mathematical modeling, dynamics of lifting and transport, construction, earthmoving and road machines and equipment.

There are two research units at the department. The first unit was founded by Dr. technical sciences, Prof. O. H. Onyshchenko and was named "Branch Research Laboratory of Mechanization of Manual Labor in Construction". The second unit is ‘Vibrotechnics’ Design Office, that was founded by Dr. technical sciences, Prof. K. O. Olekhnovych. The presence of these units is due to the productive work of two appropriate scientific schools.

So at the department there function two generally recognized scientific schools in the following areas:

Creation of theoretical bases for calculating, designing and implementing effective means of complex mechanization of finishing works in construction (Scientific supervisor – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Oleksandr Hryhorovych Onyshchenko).

Design and research of vibration equipment for the production of precast concrete (Scientific supervisor – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Kazymir Oleksandrovych Olekhnovych).

At the Department of Construction Machinery and Equipment students take a part in scientific activities. Areas of scientific research are: improvement of construction, technical maintenance and technical diagnostics of vehicles, theoretical substantiation and creation of manual labor mechanization appliances in construction; theoretical foundation and creation of vibroforming machines for precast concrete enterprises; improvement of working bodies of construction, earthmoving and road machines and others. In the process of conducting research, students are determined with the topics of their master's theses. Students present the results of their research at scientific and technical conferences of the university and beyond.

Every year, students work on external contract tasks with payment from customers, make reports at scientific conferences of the university and beyond, publish theses and scientific articles in faculty, professional and scientific issues, submit applications for inventions and useful models and receive patents, submit scientific works for the contests and receive prizes and diplomas, participate in All-Ukrainian Olympiads and receive prizes.

An important direction of activity of the students is sport, cultural and spiritual development. Special structural subdivisions of the University help students with it and works with talented and gifted youth. There are more than twenty amateur artistic groups and sports sections in the University. They unite students by interests and provide every individual with the opportunity of creative self-realization. They are the folk, ballroom, pop dance ensembles, choirs, instrumental ensembles, theater and circus studio, vocal ensembles, soloists. The student youth have the opportunity not only to participate in the University extracurricular activities held almost every week, but also to compete and win in the regional and national festivals, contests and competitions.

About fifteen years ago, a student self-government movement was founded at the university by an initiative group of active youth.

With the support of the rectorate and the trade union of the university, the student self-government was provided with a room, office equipment, and proper conditions were created for the usefull participation of all socially active students in the educational and extracurricular process.

The activities of the student self-government bodies of National University «Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic» are carried out by the collegial electoral body - the student parliament of the University, which acts on the basis of the "Regulations on Student Self-Government". In accordance with the new Law "On Higher Education", this Regulations was updated and approved on August 7, 2015 by the general meeting of the student self-government of the university.
