In the context of globalization and the information society, computerization of all areas of human activity growing importance acquires not only professional, but basic competence. Department of Economics and Regional Economics is one of the basic university departments and its functions in the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economy and Management. For over 50 years, it provides a fundamental economic and theoretical training for students in all faculties and specialties PoltNTU.

The department was founded in 1962 as the Department of Political Economy. During the 1962-1969 Department was headed by labour veteran, PhD, associate professor Konstantin Ishchenko.

From 1969 to 1982 the department was headed by PhD, Associate Professor Vladimir Bryzgalov.

From 1983 to 1986 the department was headed by PhD, Associate Professor Nicholay A. Turchin.

From 1987 to 1990 the department was headed by PhD, Associate Professor Belyaev K. Yuri.

In 1991, during the deep transformation process in society and in economics the decision of the Academic Council of the Poltava Institute of Construction Engineering - Department of Political Economy was redesigned for the Department of Economics and Management, and in 1994 it was renamed as the Department of Macroeconomics. Since 1996, during the in-depth discussions on objective and pragmatic content of economic theories, the department was renamed as the Department of Economics. From 1994 to 2001 the department was headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor Larissa V. Krivenko.

From 2001 till present time head of the department is Doctor of Economics, Professor Victor P. Dubischev. In 2006, in order to ensure the development of innovative structural divisions of University Academic Council of Poltava National Technical University decided to create on the basis of the Department of Economic Theory - Department of Economics and Regional Economics.

Today the department sets out a wide range of subjects:

4. History of economy and economic thought.

5. Economics.

6. Regional Economics.

7. Modern economic theory.

8. Social Economy.

9. National Economics.

10. Basics of Economics.

11. Socio-economic security.

12. Microeconomics and macroeconomics.

13. Social Responsibility.

14. The methodology of scientific research.

15. Laureaty Nobelivskoyi premiyi.

Teaching subjects is conducted in accordance with the direction of educational qualification Bachelor, Master and requirements of the standard curriculum and developed on the basis of their job training programs.

Department staff constantly working on improvement scientific and methodological level of teaching by using innovative teaching methods.

Material and technical base of the Department of Economics and Regional Economics is constantly updated according to the needs of the full academic, scientific, educational and socio-cultural development of the university. Department of Economics and Regional Economics located in the following areas:

All facilities have been certified, fully meet sanitary standards as for the space and for the lighting and temperature regimes.

The department has 7 teachers, including 1 doctor of economic sciences, professor; 6 associate professors.

Victor P. Dubischev - Chair, Doctor of Economics, professor.

Works in Poltava National Technical University since 1984.

In 1998 he defended his doctoral thesis on "Methodological guidelines for the development of the economic mechanism in the region."

Has more than 150 scientific and educational works.

Research interests: research of innovative forms of economic mechanism.

Teaching subjects: political economy, macroeconomics, theory of regional economy, social responsibility, research methodology.

Lyubov Titarenko M. - Deputy Head of Department, PhD, Associate Professor.

Works in PoltavaNationalTechnicalUniversity since 1979.

In 1987 she defended hers thesis on "Peculiarities of real sales of fixed assets"

She has over 70 scientific and educational works.

Research interests: theoretical and methodological aspects of the complex structuring of national economy.

Teaching subjects: modern economic theory, economic theory, economic history and economic thought.

Natalia Zhovnir - PhD, Associate Professor.

Works in PoltavaNationalTechnicalUniversity since 1998.

In 2008 she defended her thesis on "Strategy and tactics of improving the quality of work at the regional level"

She has over 65 scientific and educational works.

Research interests: the formation of labour efficiency at the national and regional levels.

Teaching subjects: macroeconomics, microeconomics.

Elena Shevchenko - PhD, Associate Professor.

Works in PoltavaNationalTechnicalUniversity since 2010.

In 2006 she defended her thesis on "Formation of the securities market in the transformational economy."

She has over 90 scientific and educational works.

Research interests: research and development problems of the stock market and venture capital in the innovation economy.

Teaching subjects: economics, microeconomics.

Valery A. Moltusov - Ph.D., Associate Professor.

Works in PoltavaNationalTechnicalUniversity since 2003.

In 2002 he defended his thesis on "Military and historical aspects of the Northern War."

He has over 40 scientific and educational works.

Research interests: the economic policy of the leading countries of the world, the impact of institutions on the formation of the economic environment and civil society.

Teaching subjects: history of economic thought and economics, national economics, regional economics.

Oleg S. Maksimenko - Ph.D, Associate Professor.

Works in PoltavaNationalTechnicalUniversity since 2005.

In 2012 he defended his thesis on "State regulation of the energy efficiency of the national economy."

He has over 35 scientific and educational works.

Research interests: energy security of the national economy.

Teaching subjects: political economy, microeconomics, economic theory.

Olga Marchyshynets - PhD, associate professor.

Works in PoltavaNationalTechnicalUniversity in 2014.

In 2012 she defended her thesis on "harvesting activities of consumer cooperatives in Ukraine 20-ies"

She has over 45 scientific and educational works.

Research interests: state regulation of the economy.

Disciplines: basics of economic theory, government regulation of the economics.

Andriy W. Pluzhnyk. - Senior Lecturer.

Works in Poltava National Technical University since 2005.

He has over 30 scientific and educational works.

Research interests: economic security.

Teaching subjects: political economy, macroeconomics, etc.

Department of Economics and Regional Economics is not graduating Department.

Scientific activities and Research work is carried out in accordance with the laws of Ukraine "On scientific and scientific-Technical Activities", "On innovation activity", in regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in orders administration to the decisions of the Academic Council Poltava National Technical University and meets the strategic areas of scientific-research in university. Scientists of the department work as part of a scientific school toward justification of regional development and the formation of scientific bases of regional social and economic policy (supervisor - doctor of economic sciences, professor Volodymyr Onishchenko). Guide graduate students in research work carried out by leading teachers with significant experience in research and educational activities.

Since 2010 to the present time scientific work and academic staff of the department planned subordinate to the research topic "Management of socio-economic development at the national and regional levels in Ukraine" (state registration number 011U001833). Being prepared scientific articles, monographs, conducted methodological workshops.

The efforts of the teaching staff are focused on research of major scientific areas:

- Develop models of economic development of Ukraine in conditions of world globalization;

- Formation of labour potential of the region;

- Innovation and investment mechanism for implementing the development strategy of the region;

- Management labour potential based on regional development factors;

- Formation of regional regulatory policy;

- Economic incentives for energy efficient development of regions of Ukraine;

- Global problems of modern economic development in terms of integration;

- Formation of regional real estate markets;

- Funding of regional tourism market.

Research activity of the department is making an important contribution to the development of economic science and is aimed at the theoretical evaluation of current and long-term challenges of the global economy and to prepare proposals for the implementation of practical measures at different levels of the economy: national, regional, sectoral, enterprise, individual, etc. Along with theoretical basic research, the department provides consulting services to companies in shaping their approach to strategy development.

According to the results of research faculty chair for the last five years developed and published 374 scientific works including 9 textbooks, 194 articles in professional and foreign journals, 9 monographs and 235 abstracts.

The department operates scientific-methodological seminar, which addresses the most important issues of modern economic theory and history of economic thought. Materials of the seminar is regularly covered in major scientific collections Ukraine: Scientific Journal Poltava National Technical University "Economics and the region", "Economic Journal", "Economics" and others.

Good tradition for department staff became involving in organizing and conducting the All-Ukrainian scientific-practical Internet conference "Modern economics: Theory and Practice".

At the Department of Economic Theory and Regional Economics organized the research work of students. In the organization of research work of students occupy an important place Olympiads, conferences, student research, and academic Science club. Every year teachers carried round in competition with disciplines "Regional economy", "economic theory" to identify, find and support gifted students.

Science club activities aimed at creating a scientific outlook and fundamentals of general Science club and popularization of research work among students. Meetings of the group considered most urgent problems of economic theory. Science club operates in the following research areas:

1. The structure of the national economy, structural policy and its implementation mechanism.

2. Regulators and instruments of anti-crisis policy.

3. The economic security of the national economy.

4. The investment process, the state investment policy and its implementation mechanism.

5. Innovative development, state innovation policy and its implementation mechanism.

As a result of the operation of student science club students under the supervision of the department over the past five steps published 135 scientific publications, including 10 articles and 125 abstracts

The aim of the international activity of the department is to improve cooperation with the university partners, Search, explore and use the best international experience in research and teaching work, expanding mobility of teaching staff and students adapt to European and international standards while maintaining the best developments of national education, improving the authority of the department and the university in Ukraine and abroad.

The main activities of the department for international cooperation:

- Involvement of teaching staff, masters and PhD students to participate in international projects;

- Cooperation with international educational institutions;

- Teaching foreign students in the university;

- Organizing internships for teachers of the department;

- Use of international experience in scientific, educational, cultural and educational works;

- To promote scientific cooperation with foreign counterparts.

The scientific potential of the department is growing by the annual participation in international conferences. Department staff productively working in scientific research direction, as evidenced by the number published in foreign journals abstracts and articles.

The development of joint programs is one of the main directions of the international cooperation department. So important is the question of expanding the scope of cooperation with foreign counterparts, including the creation and implementation of double degree programs.

Today, Department conducts organizational work of finding partners, relevant consortia under the EU Programme "Horizon 2020". Also, teachers of the department actively searching for partners and participate in information sessions on opportunities for cooperation within Erasmus +.

The department is actively involved in research works with international students. As part of the student scientific club of the department prepared scientific reports on issues in international economic relations between Ukraine, China, Nigeria, Tunis, Ghana, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan.

The choice of future profession is one of the most important decisions a young person. Economics is one of the most important disciplines for future specialists both economic and non-economic areas. It provides obtaining thorough economic knowledge and skills in the study of economic phenomena and processes are the basis for the formation of modern scientific type of economic thinking. Without mastery of theoretical problems that it studies, it is impossible to become highly skilled, experienced manager, manager, scholar and statesman date. At present knowledge of economic theory are particularly important because the country needs highly qualified professionals that can overcome the economic instability and sustainable economic development.

At the Department of Economics and Regional Economics there are teachers who are fluent in English and have a certificate of "C". At the Department developed programs on disciplines in English.

Student`s Life in PoltNTU very colorful. The department provides opportunities for the development and fulfillment of each person. Students created the conditions for self-improvement knowledge in their free time developing their hobbies. Everyone can try their hand at various national and international scientific conferences, competitions, Olympiads.

The department operates a student science club under the research interests of teachers and students in the areas of research:

- The structure of the national economy, structural policies and the mechanism of its implementation;

- Regulators and anti-crisis policy instruments;

- Economic security of the national economy;

- Investment process, the state investment policy and its implementation mechanism;

- Innovative development, state innovation policy and its implementation mechanism.

The best scientific results of the science club are published in scientific collections of student works, professional journals  and used in the development of economic contracts.

Members of the faculty of the department held conversations, discussions, organized travels to historical places of Ukraine.
